31 Oct Wolseley Owners Club provide Meals on Wolseley Wheels in Golcar
Wolseley Owners Club Technical Director Chris Chantrell, in his Wolseley 18/85 and member Graham Jones in his Wolseley 15/50, from Yorkshire and Lancashire, were the first members to drive the ‘Meals on Wheels’ volunteers around their routes in Golcar, West Yorkshire, on Wednesday 31st October 2012, visiting eight residents’ houses.
Organisers, Sharon Higginbotham, sister Lynn Ainley and other volunteers, run an entirely voluntary Meals on Wheels service in Golcar for the elderly, in association with the local Golcar Lily pub, who cook the meals for the residents for free. Sharon said “the club members who ran the volunteers around their routes was a fabulous idea and that their residents, who receive the two course hot meals loved it, with some residents coming outside to see the Wolseleys”.
In 2011, celebrity chefs, Dave Myers and Si King, better known as the ‘Hairy Bikers’, helped some volunteers, including Sharon and Lynn, to set up a Meals on Wheels service in Slaithwaite, West Yorkshire, approximately three miles from Golcar. Their project was featured in the BBC TV series and raised great awareness of the need for these services for valued elderly members in the community.
Chris Chantrell said “we had a superb day, it was great to help the residents and volunteers in Golcar and the club looks forward to doing this again in the future”.
