Return to Hampton – unveiling of the restored 1947 Wolseley 18/85

On Tuesday 20th November 2012, the Wolseley Owners Club were invited to return to the Metropolitan Police’s Hampton Traffic Garage in London for the unveiling of their newly restored 1947 Wolseley 18/85.

Some club members last visited the garage in March, earlier in the year, as part of a visit to the South East of England to celebrate Frederick York Wolseley’s 175th birthday.

Members were met by James Selby-Weatherley, Metropolitan Police Officer and were shown to the garage, where they met and chatted to police garage staff who had worked on the 18/85 and Nick Larkin from Classic Car Weekly, also invited to the unveiling.

A short speech was given by one of the police officers about the history of the Wolseley 18/85 and its restoration. Included in the speech was a vote of thanks to the two John’s, responsible for most of the work, plus the companies who had carried out the painting, upholstery and electroplating of the chrome parts.

The engine and the engine bay on the 18/85 are not yet completed, due to time constraints but they will be finished at a later date.

All attending enjoyed refreshments and looking at the other interesting classic police cars in the garage. Everyone agreed it had been a truly wonderful day, thoroughly enjoyed and sent a huge thank you to James and his colleagues for inviting the club to the unveiling occasion.
