40th Cumbria Steam Gathering 2012

The Wolseley Owners Club had a stand at the 40th Annual Cumbria Steam Gathering on Cark airfield, Flookburgh, in North West England on 28th and 29th July 2012. There was a great turnout of members’ cars including 12/48,14/60, 16/60, 4/44, 15/50, 1500 and members visiting the stand.

Special thanks to Anne, our Chairman, who provided an excellent buffet for the team and our members, including sandwiches, homemade quiches, sausage rolls and fantastic fruit and sponge cakes. They didn’t last long! As usual, the kettle was on all weekend and many welcome drinks were enjoyed.

There was much to see, from over 1,000 exhibits, many classic cars, motorcycles, tractors, commercial vehicles and stationary engines, a vintage fair, many caterers and beer tents, auto jumble, trade stands and stalls, crafts, different displays to engines, two being from the Levens Hall Collection – Fowler showman’s ‘Bertha’ and the Foden wagon. The wagon was the only vehicle to have been at the 1st and 40th steam gathering.

All credit to the organisers who dealt with the consequences of heavy rain on Saturday night, continuing into Sunday morning, which did not dampen the enthusiasm of the campers, exhibitors and many members of the public who attended the show. Fortunately the sun appeared later on Sunday morning and brightened up the day.

A superb weekend enjoyed by all.
