38th Distington Vintage rally

38th Distington Vintage rally

Early start for this one, as west Cumbria is not the easiest place to get to. It’s only 55 miles from Milburn but the A66 is notorious to drive a classic car on. Ok yes it’s Sunday morning, but you still get people treating it like a race track, it’s the main East West link road and mostly single carriage way.

It looked like the  weather was going to be good, in fact the day was roasting with occasional sea breeze which for myself and Whiz, my boxer dog, was most welcome.

It only took hour and 20 minutes roughly, to get there sitting at 45 mph to 50, I just took it steady enjoying the drive, through the Lakes past Blencathera, Skiddaw, Lonscale, Latrigg, Causesy, Pike Sail and Cat Bells to name few of the fells and long side the Lake Districts only lake – Bassenthwaite Lake.

The show field at Distington is on the farm called Hayes Castle its 38th year this year. We got parked up and set up, even Herman the hairy haggis came again – think he is a travelling haggis.

I was totally shocked later in the day, when a gentleman asked me as I was putting some stuff in my car – is this yours and handed me Second Place for the pre 1940s class!

Phillipa Bellsham, Northern member.
